Nick's 30 Day Paleo Challenge- Day 8

I finally started feeling good yesterday. My energy was back and I didn't feel sluggish all day. That's the real beauty of the Paleo Diet.

I met a colleague over from London for breakfast at a place by work. I had 2 eggs sunny side up and some bacon. They have great coffee there too (French Press).

For lunch I had some greens and beef. I am getting a little sick of eating veggies so need to try and mix it up.

Some additional good news I had a new TV stand delivered to my house yesterday. Have to thank my mom for waiting at my place when they delivered it. Looks pretty good.

I was going to dinner at Hu Kitchen (again) but managed to get a little NBA 2K in before I left:

At Hu Kitchen I had the chicken and broccoli. For dessert (key reason to go there) I had a carrot cake whoppie pie. Unbelievable. Soooo good. Really. Really. Amazing.

Dinner:

And here is the cake:

Sooo good

So as I said I am feeling really good right now. I weighed myself yesterday and was down to 234. Not as much as I would like but I do like the fact that I have a ton of energy and don't have any sluggishness at all.

I wanted a soda a few times yesterday and almost cracked but ended up going to a piece of fruit. I need to stay on the water. Keep drinking it.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Nick's 30 Day Paleo Challenge- Day 6/7

So I have to say that the weekend was far better than Friday. I regrouped and got my stuff together.
I woke up on Saturday morning feeling like total garbage. It was like a bomb went off in my body (it did sort of).

I got up around 9:30 am (slept terribly) met some buddies and went to breakfast at Hu Kitchen. Started off with the Paleo French Toast.

Really, really good. Actually better than regular French Toast. I was thoroughly impressed. Not by the price though. 4 pieces of french toast were $11.50 USD.

I also had a smoothie which was another $9 bucks. Good news is after I left breakfast I beat level 70 in Candy Crush. This level is miserable and I was stuck on it for a solid 5 weeks. I am now on Level 72...booyah

When I got back home I needed a bit more of a nap....so I took one.

When I woke up I headed over to the Amish Market and grabbed some Chicken and fruit. Sometimes I feel like that is all I am eating.

For dinner I had a proper Primal Meal. Mr. Furious (aka Angry Boy) cooked up a few steaks and hand sliced bacon straight from the butcher.

In addition we also had some green beans with garlic (yum) and broccoli.

Here is the final product:

Very tasty. Thank you Angry Boy.

I hit the sack around 11:30 pm that night and slept better.

I woke up feeling a little better on Sunday and went for a bike ride with Marisa down to Hu Kitchen again. Guess what I had. Mine is on the left.

We did a few more errands afterwards (i.e. picked up a television and went shopping at the grocer). We then started watching the movie Diana which I didn't like (and subsequently fell asleep) for one key reason: Dodi Fayed was not a doctor. I think his occupation in real life was "Film Producer." The movie, in the parts I saw at least, painted him as this amazing surgeon. Not really true to form.

For dinner I had a chicken salad and some fruit.

I am starting to feel better but cant let episodes like Friday happen anymore. They throw me off the beam to much and divert me from my goals.

One good thing I learned this weekend is that when I do have a craving for some variety (and assuming I just got paid) that Hu Kitchen is a great place for me to go for healthy sweets. They have Paleo Cookies, muffins, Paleo "Candy"Bars and Blondies. So when I need a fix I will be going there.

Need more exercise and need to drink more water. I'll weigh in tonight and report back.

Speak to you all tomorrow.

p.s. I'm so pissed at myself about Friday......ahhhhh

Nick's 30 Day Paleo Challenge- Day 5

Day 5 started off as a good day. I woke up and had no headache plus I slept really well. I had some coffee in the morning when I got to work. At lunch time I had a Chicken salad with no dressing. All the while thinking "wow, I am through the tough part." Wrong.....when you treat your body like a garbage dumpster there are consequences. Have a look at some of mine from Friday night at Blue Smoke.

Cornbread for a starter....Boom

Lets bring in the BBQ chips:

Rib Sampler: crushed those
Only healthy thing on the table

Spicy Sausage

Ohh yeah I also had two regular cokes as if the food wasn't bad enough. So I was now in full sugar crave and we then went looking for Ice Cream:

After all this I thought it was a good idea to play some tennis. We booked 2 hrs but only got an hour in. I felt so ill. The court was empty that second hour.

And to make matters worse on my way home I picked up rice cakes with peanut butter and had 2 mexican cokes. AHHHHHHHHH.

I woke up the next day feeling like total crap.

I'll post saturday and sunday (where I did alot better and am back on the horse in a few hours). I think when I eat bad I avoid the blog (as I did with the juice cleanse) and I don't want to do that again. This is a place where I can be honest which is what I will be.

Happy Monday.

Nick's 30 Day Paleo Challenge- Day 4

Day 4...brutal. Woke up with one of the worst headaches I have ever had. Felt like I got cracked in the head repeatedly with a hammer. I took a personal day from work to chill out and sleep over my sugar detox hangover.

I needed some food though and a ton of water. I went to this place called Hu Kitchen which is Paleo paradise. They have Paleo Bread and Paleo Muffins. Not the greatest tasting but better than nothing.

Paleo Muffin:

Paleo Breakfast:

I still felt like crap after this feed so I headed back home and hit the couch. Woke up around noon and had some lunch from Amish Market.

Beef....its what is for Lunch.

Around 6 pm I stopped by Le Pain Quotiden (sp) also known as "The Communal table." My buddy wanted a french press coffee and when he asked the lady behind the counter she looked baffled and gave him a drip coffee that had probably been sitting there for 4 hrs.

This place is not the best for a Caveman to be hanging out:

Lots of good junk food:

The remainder of the evening I watched this show Vikings.....awesome. New favorite show on TV.

I also grabbed dinner from the Palm.

A Chop
Some greens

I went to sleep feeling much better and have been getting really restful sleep. Feel like I am coming through the detox and should start feeling more like myself. I forget that when I treat my body like a garbage dumpster this is how I feel. However, I am taking some steps to change that.

Happy Friday.

Nick's 30 Day Paleo Challenge- Day 3

Yesterday was pretty much the same as the day before. I skipped breakfast and had some coffee/water in the morning. Had a bunch of stuff going on at work. For lunch had some greens with beef.

I left work about 5pm and had this really great drink on the way home super refreshing.

Had a few other pieces of Chicken as well for a snack.

For dinner I went to the Palm with a co-worker. I had the bacon wrapped scallops, salad and Lamb.

I stayed away from the bread basket despite it looking so good.

We had a meeting at 10pm with a firm on the other side of the world so we headed back to the office to prepare and have the meeting.

Finished up around 11:30pm and headed home.

Still have/had terrible headache. Constantly hungry. Want to give up. But Wont.

Till tomorrow.

Nick's 30 Day Paleo Challenge- Day 2

Pretty standard Day 2 stuff for me. Slept well but woke up with a headache and absolutely craving a soda. I went for the Water and a piece of Fruit.

I skipped Breakfast which wasn't the smartest move since I was famished by noon. I had lunch with one of my buddies from work at 12. For lunch I did salad, beef and sweet potatoes. We had a meeting in Midtown from 1-3. I picked up a coffee from Starbucks before we walked in. I asked for Almond Milk and the guy at Starbucks said "I feel like its coming, so many people are asking for it. But as of now, NO, we do not have Almond Milk."

After that I was still struggling so I had another fruit salad. I am definitely eating way too much fruit but early on like this it is the only thing that really helps.

The rest of the day was uneventful. I worked.

On my walk home from the job I picked up a chicken from Amish Market. Ate half of that as well as some more fruit (Berries, Pineapple and Banana).

Headache hit me again in the afternoon. Around 9:30 pm I was hungry again and decided to have some eggs and bacon. The craziest thing happened to me. I got double yolks in 3 eggs. Check it:

One of the yolks broke, but it was a double. Take my word for it. How crazy is that?

I also cooked some bacon (but did so in moderation):

So at the end of Day 2 I was exhausted, had fits of a headache all day, but feel good mentally. Watched the first half of Kick Ass 1 and so far have been laughing my ass off.

Talk to you all tomorrow.

Nick's 30 Day Paleo Challenge- Day 1

I'm back. Completed one full day of Paleo yesterday. It wasn't the hardest day 1 of something I have ever had, but it certainly wasn't the easiest.

Over the time period between my last post and now I have had many many Mexican Coca-Cola's, a lot of Chinese food and tons of other crap. Quick update on all that has happened:

I went skiing:

I picked up a new sport and have been playing it a ot. Typically around 3x times a week:

Dippin' Dots came to NYC:

I discovered a Tennis court right in Grand Central. Here I am after a late-night match

I got TSA Pre-Check so I don't need to wait on lines anymore at the airport. Yes!

Had a root canal....sucked

Weird Dentist Chair Selfie:

I discovered the cream puff

Had Gus's Fried Chicken in Memphis, TN. Definitely not Paleo, but real good.

I bought a big ass Flat Screen Television.

Cat is doing the same.

So as I said yesterday wasn't to bad. I started out with a Salad (Chicken, Carrots and Olive Oil). Washed that all down with a strawberry/banana smoothie:

Next up was a bike ride across the Manhattan Bridge. Terrible going up the bridge but nice ride down:

After that took the train back home and stopped at my Mom's to fix her TV for the 18th time this week (kidding Mom). All her animals are doing well. Doesn't one of her Cats look like a Lion with its haircut:

Her hair gets matted so they have to cut it.

After that I went shopping and said goodbye to all the junk I have in my home:

Lots of good stuff from the Amish Market:

Said goodbye to my best friend (The Mexican Coke):

I cooked dinner last night. Couple of steaks, Sweet Potatoes and Broccoli:

I'm feeling a little sluggish but pushing through. I tipped the scales at 237.8 so I'll keep you all updated on how I am doing.

Till tomorrow.
